THE CONSERVATORY is open and thriving!

My new studio school, The Conservatory For Classical Art has been open since May!  Enrollment is going well - steady and growing.  Our first workshop with Grand Central Academy instructor, Scott Waddell was a huge success.  We had 14 students.  The workshop was 5 intensive days on Scott's techniques for painting a portrait in oil.  Our next workshops include Florence Academy instructor, Nicholas Enevoldsen who will be teaching a six week class on painting the portrait with charcoal, Dan Robinson of Cave Creek, AZ, will teach The Principles of Painting Form, and Grand Central Academy instructor, Douglas Flynt, will be teaching a 5 day workshop on Painting the Figure.  There is a lot going on here!  Please visit the website to take a look: www.theconservatoryforclassicalart.org  We are very excited about the possibilities for this school!  Thanks to  all who have offered support and encouragement and who have been and become students of The Conservatory!!  There is more to come!

NEW WORK

'The Girl in the Red Scarf"
Pastel
5X5

This drawing is from reference photos I took while waiting for my son to run his heat during a track meet.  As you may know, waiting for one 2 minute race can take literally hours!  So, I took advantage of the time by taking pictures of people.  I saw this young girl standing with her mother.  The red scarf she wore was so beautiful against her face.  I was thrilled to capture the variety of exquisite reds in the scarf.

MORE STUDENT WORK

This still life is in progress and is the work of Brittany Foley (16).  Brittany is a very fine draftsman and painter, even at her young age.  This painting, although not finished yet, is a very good example of her skill.

This oil still life was painted by Connie Rish who has been studying with me.  She recently finished this painting, which was done in oil, on linen on panel, from life, in my studio. Connie will have an exhibition of her work at "Guthrie Art Walk Second Saturday", in Guthrie, OK on April 9, 4 - 9 pm at 123 West Oklahoma Ave., Guthrie.

THUNDERHEAD

"Thunderhead"
Pastel on Paper
5X7
I'm getting ready for FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS in Oklahoma City and I've just finished this piece for the show.  The cloud is made up of about 15 layers of soft pastel colors.  It took a little while to achieve the illusion of volume ~ but I'm satisfied with the result.

Festival of the Arts starts Tuesday, April 26 thru Sunday, May 1
